THE Independent Liquor Group has named Warners at the Bay its Hotel of the Year for 2008.

The award was one of a handful distributed by the co-operative at its recent annual general meeting.

The group is a member-owned wholesaler which services more than 1200 hotels, bottle shops, licensed clubs, bars and restaurants across NSW and Queensland.

ILG's sales manager Aidan Desmond said a hotel, a bottle shop and a club were chosen each year for recognition by the group.

Nominations are made by the group's field representatives.

"The winners are chosen based on things like overall performance, promotional progress and best practices," Mr Desmond said.

"Presentation and staff service levels are also taken into consideration."

Established in 1975 with a modest membership of 25, ILG's objective as a co-operative is to provide support to its members to ensure their profitability.

The group has continued to grow over three decades and now has an annual turnover of $200 million.
