WOLLONGONG City Council will be put under the microscope next month as part of a State Government review of the organisation.

Three NSW Department of Local Government officers will visit the council from May 22 to examine its practices, as well as frameworks for monitoring organisational performance and strategic management practices.

The review is part of the State Government's Promoting Better Practice program, which started in 2004 to make sure councils are operating effectively.

Wollongong City Council chief executive officer Rod Oxley said the review would reaffirm council's best practices and identify areas that needed improvement.

"We take seriously our commitment toward delivering quality services and facilities which meet community expectations ..." Mr Oxley said.
